Everyone knows there are many ways to promote a mini program; what does not exist is one way that suits every business. Mini programs have improved daily life considerably, but earning from one depends on the environment you build it in — and the key word in the name is mini: light, quick, and therefore unable to carry very much.
Pick a target that fits the product
The purpose has to match the product rather than decorate it. Taxi hailing, personal finance, media — these are thin-function, thin-platform, thin-interaction products that lean on service, content and social instead. A mini program is a good home for that shape of business and a poor one for a heavy tool.
Four limits worth knowing before you build
Development is usually described as simple. It is not. The constraints are specific, and each one shapes what the product can become.
1. Compatibility
What you build in the developer tools is not what the phone shows. The same mini program renders differently on iOS and Android, and that difference has to be tested on real devices rather than assumed away.
2. An incomplete component set
Components such as WebView and ImageView are not available directly. On the web, or in native iOS and Android, a WebView is a line of code; in a mini program the developer has to wrap the platform’s own components to get the same behaviour.
3. The scripting language
Scripts are JavaScript, and only that. Most of the third-party frameworks that make web development productive cannot be used at all, which changes how a team plans the code.
4. The editor
The tooling still falls short of what developers expect: code completion is patchy and the window layout could be better. None of it is fatal; all of it costs time.
The real difficulty is not the code, though — it is positioning and design. A mini program cannot be a native app lifted across. The product has to be rethought for the platform, for the situations it is used in, and for the rules WeChat sets.
