Template Shop or Custom Studio: Which Mini Program Company?

Most people commissioning a mini program look for a company to build it, and most of them are not in the industry, so the question becomes which one to choose. The first thing to settle is not the vendor but the method.

Two kinds of company

Some companies build from self-service templates; others write custom code. Those are different products from different kinds of business, so decide which method you are buying before you start comparing suppliers — otherwise you are rating answers to two different questions.

If you are buying a template build

Self-service template builds suit small and micro businesses: no code, fast to launch, low cost, and the value is obvious. Judge the supplier on three things — how many template types there are, whether the platform is easy to learn, and how many functions the platform actually carries.

If you are buying custom code

Custom development suits larger companies that need something specific to them, and it costs correspondingly more. Judge that supplier on the work they have shipped and on what the service looks like before and after launch — the cases and the maintenance arrangement tell you most of what matters.

Neither answer is better in the abstract. A template that fits your business beats a custom build that does not, and the only way to know which one you are looking at is to have the requirement written down first.
