How do you apply for a WeChat mini program, and what does the process actually involve? Applying is an unavoidable step in any mini program project, and it is simpler than most people expect. The whole thing comes down to three steps: account details, email activation, and entity registration.
1. Account details
The application starts with the account itself: an email address, a password, a verification code. One thing to watch is that each email address can only be used for one mini program. If you are planning several, plan the addresses first.
Registration is handled on the WeChat public platform, through the mini program registration page.
2. Email activation
Once the account details are submitted, the system sends a verification email. Open it and follow the link to confirm the address.
3. Entity registration
Clicking through from that email lands on the entity registration form. Here you select the country or region and the entity type, and the information required changes with the type you choose.
There are five entity types: individual, company, government, media organisation, and other organisation. Each carries its own documentation requirements, and a company registration will need the licence and the legal representative’s details. Complete the fields and the application is done; development and administration of the mini program become available immediately afterwards.
What to have ready
The only step that usually causes delay is the third, and almost always for the same reason: documents not to hand. Have the business licence, any industry qualification your trade requires, and the legal representative’s ID ready before you begin, and the three steps take a few minutes rather than a few days.
