In the mobile era, broad distribution and blanket promotion stopped working. What the market has settled on instead is targeted marketing: identify the audience precisely before running anything, and build a picture of them from data rather than from assumption.
That principle applies to a mini program exactly as it applies to any other channel. Four ways to act on it.
1. Know who you are aiming at
Before promotion, define the target group and describe them from what you can actually observe: what they buy, where they are, what they search for. A campaign aimed at everyone reaches nobody in particular, and costs the same as one that is aimed properly.
2. Put the code where your customers already are
For a physical shop, a distinctive mini program code is a good way to catch attention, and it can be placed both online and in the shop itself, in the middle of whatever promotion is running.
Then give people a reason to stay in touch. Encourage them to follow the official account or join a group, and run that group properly: community management is what raises stickiness, and stickiness is what produces the second purchase.
3. Share a page, not the program
Forward a specific page to a friend, or into a group, rather than sending the mini program’s entry point.
The difference in effect is large, and it is easiest to see by comparison. Share a genuinely useful article and the reader is grateful for the article. Share a contact card and the reader has to decide whether to add it. Share a product page that solves a real problem, and the value is visible before anyone commits. Only the third produces a customer.
For a mini program serving a local area, keep the sharing local as well. Pushing a neighbourhood service into groups in another city produces nothing, because nobody there can walk in.
4. Match the channel to the category
For tools, e-commerce, travel and entertainment, placement works differently. Those products travel: an official account, the company website and other channels all carry them well, because the user does not have to be nearby to use them.
The mistake that wastes most of the effort is treating all four as the same thing. A local service and a national product are not promoted the same way, and the audience decides which of the four applies.
