Plenty of merchants have built their own WeChat mini program mall and then stalled: they do not know how to run it, or which methods actually bring people in and turn them into customers. There are more options than most people use. Here are five of the common ones.
1. Offline events
Where circumstances allow, short offline events work well — meet-ups, launch events, industry sessions. They raise brand recognition and, more usefully, they give people a reason to follow the mini program on the spot. That is what makes the later order possible.
2. Linking the official account and the video channel
A mini program has the advantage of no download and no install, but on its own it will not hold a relationship with the customer, so traffic leaks away. The fix is structural rather than promotional. Bind the official account to the mini program, put a mini program entry in the account’s bottom menu, and insert mini program cards into articles. The video channel adds the piece text cannot: video shows the product as it is. Used together, account, channel and mini program form a WeChat ecosystem of their own, and that is where a steady pool of private traffic comes from.
3. A membership system
This is the most direct way to hold on to people. Turn on membership inside the mini program, set points and tiers, and let the rewards scale with spend — the more a customer buys, the higher the tier. It gives them a reason to buy again rather than once.
4. Group chats
A WeChat group is a private traffic pool that costs nothing to open. Build several fan groups, or use a promotion to pull a segment together quickly, then route different groups toward different offers. Group behaviour is herd behaviour: a well-timed multi-item promotion inside a group moves product in a way a banner never will.
5. Outsourced operation
Handing the mini program to a third-party operations team is common now. It saves the merchant time and attention and usually raises output. The trade-off is cost — an agency retainer is a real line item, and a larger one than most people expect. Running it yourself costs only the build of the mini program and the official account, plus the time you put in.
For a new business, the practical move is to pick two of these that fit your own situation rather than attempt all five at once. None of them is hard to operate once it is set up. We build several types of WeChat mini program mall and are glad to talk through which model suits your category — XZS Tech.
