Inside a Distribution Mall System for Mini Programs

Custom mini program development comes in several forms — a distribution mall, a shopfront, a membership model — all built to order and all reasonably quick to deliver.

Mini programs had their breakthrough year in 2019 and information about them was everywhere, much as it had been with WeChat in 2014. A lot of companies built mobile commerce distribution into their mini program without fully understanding what a distribution system is. Distribution is a differentiated rebate model: a percentage is set by tier, and the payout goes to whichever distributor made the sale. The core mechanic is that it can replicate indefinitely — a distributor recruits distributors, who recruit more, and each layer earns on what it sells.

The three characteristics of a custom distribution build

1. Independent branches. Every user can be given their own storefront, which is what turns a customer into a sales channel.

2. A network that spreads on its own. The system lets more people sell on your behalf, and each distributor can recruit the level beneath them, so a product moves through a very wide circle of contacts quickly.

3. One place to manage it. A thousand storefronts sit under one company and one back-end console, from which the operator can see and control each store’s operation, orders and sales — which is the difference between a network and a mess.

Mini programs are the next opening in mobile commerce. The technology involved is now ordinary; what will make them the next place traffic concentrates is the market getting used to them, and that takes time rather than a feature.
