A good app cannot neglect detail handling. In app development, in the rush to iterate and launch fast, we often overlook details. Drawing on years of app development experience, XZS Tech shares the pits we stepped in when designing products, that is, the details to watch.
1. Role-based information management
Different roles see different content, and even the same role sees different content in different states; for example, what a visitor, a first-level member and a second-level member can access differs. So when adding any new feature, clearly mark which roles the content is open to and whether displayed information is consistent.
2. Exception scenarios
In product design, abnormal cases are often more complex than normal ones, so you must comprehensively consider all kinds of exceptions and produce interaction design drawings for them.
A feed list has two display cases: no content, and content available.
Scenario one: no feed items at all. The design must consider whether to prompt the user here to follow more people or others.
Scenario two: feed items exist. Beyond how each item displays, the design must consider whether to paginate the items, how page-turning interaction works, and how to prompt the user when all content has been shown. As for format: show the article’s publication time directly (for example 13:15), or show “3 hours ago”? The exact requirement depends on how the product is used.
3. Accuracy
Different periods demand different display accuracy: an event just now is accurate to the second, one from a day ago to the day. Use a default text prompt format.
For example, when an input box loses focus, it should show guidance for the user’s input. If some part’s functional logic is complex, draw a complete flowchart covering the flows under various scenarios.
Finally: in every app development process, the product manager must answer for every detail of the product designed, because without full consideration the developed product may well be incomplete, or require far more effort to remedy. We hope these suggestions offer useful reference.
