With a Mini Program, Does an Enterprise Still Need a Website?

A mini program eases communication on the WeChat side, but it cannot be searched through engines such as Baidu. Search engines remain a huge customer group, and whether a corporate site’s mobile terminal still matters traces back to exactly that search consideration. Seen from this angle, building a corporate website remains very necessary.

On another level, in the internet era the corporate website project is the enterprise’s image. The website is like your company’s offline storefront: it should convey the enterprise’s service, strength and products to customers, letting potential customers understand and trust the enterprise more and more, and so become a bridge for exchange between both sides.

For enterprises, the information age demands diversity: widen the marketing channels, use fragmentised and innovative speeds, combine various display methods and realise greater value. The corporate website era has not ended; rather, it supplies better service provision that WeChat mini programs cannot replace.

In short, mini programs and corporate websites complement each other, but a mini program cannot replace the website.

Everyone knows what a corporate website is, but few know the process and details behind one. It is not as simple as laypeople imagine, just writing programs and setting templates: there is plenty to do, needing more care. Planning takes time and energy too. Building a corporate website is quite brief, but building a valuable one is not so simple: from the earlier style and site positioning to later maintenance and updates, it all counts.

Corporate website building essentials

At the early stage, everyone knows the style, colour and look must be planned around the company’s business scope, culture, target groups and product character. This is the beginning and an important step; its quality directly decides the impression you leave before the audience. Next comes choosing a suitable URL, the domain. It only needs to relate to your site’s content, be short and not messy; if too messy, nobody remembers it. You can also use the company’s letters or an abbreviation of its products so customers grasp what the company does. A cluttered domain costs you return visits. So choosing the domain matters too.

Then internal links. Internal links connect the inside of the site; done well, they mean more traffic later. The main purpose of arranging them is showing people the key pages, which improves the experience. Navigation acts as a guide telling everyone what is where, and breadcrumbs aid the sailing better: short and direct, they hold a comparative edge over competitors.

Finally there is search optimisation. Many may think it is too early to consider, but real optimisers know it must be weighed in the middle phase. Mid-term optimisation considers not just keywords, introductions, descriptions, layout, pages and links, but also the user experience and the beauty of the pages.
