We usually think a software project passes through these stages: the requirements stage, the research and development stage, and the release stage. The R&D stage includes project kick-off, the app development process and app testing.
Testing covers these test units: product-facing multi-model synchronised platform testing, including app content testing, app performance testing, app function testing, app appearance testing, and debugging and bug fixing.
Software testing is a series of process activities covering test requirement analysis, test plan design, test case design and test execution. Testing therefore runs through the software project’s whole life cycle: at every stage, test activities with different aims and content must be carried out to ensure each stage’s correctness.
The object of software testing is not only the code but also the requirement documents and design documents. Development and testing should proceed interactively: unit coding needs unit testing, and the module assembly stage needs integration testing. If you wait until coding finishes, testing time will be very short, coverage very incomplete, and the effect greatly reduced. Worse, if errors from the requirements stage or outline design stage surface then, fixing them costs enormous time and manpower.
From the user’s angle, facing an unfamiliar new app in an age of extremely scarce attention, users may lack the patience to learn it piece by piece, and it is easy to lose interest in using it. So whether in product design or product functions, follow the principle of simplicity and make it easy to start. Moreover, the more functions a product has, the harder it is for users to find the truly valuable points, and those key functions will sooner or later be dragged down by the flavourless ones. The more complex the product, the higher the cost, and the more maintenance and iterations, which is not a good thing for an ordinary company. An app’s functions should not be numerous: development time is limited, and too many functions only delay the app’s originally planned release date, postponing the custom product’s launch.
XZS Tech is a Shenzhen-based development company. We build custom mini programs, WeChat and mobile apps, e-commerce systems and corporate websites, covering requirement analysis, design, development and after-sales support, and we hand over the source code at delivery.
