With so many website companies in the market, a business in Shenzhen trying to pick a reliable one has a real problem: from the outside they all describe themselves the same way.
Four things are worth checking, and they are checkable before you sign.
1. The size of the company
Favour a company with some scale. Building a site properly requires a technical team, and a supplier that genuinely has one will not be a two-person operation.
This is a proxy rather than proof, but it filters quickly. A company with a real team has payroll to meet, which means it intends to still be there when you need something fixed.
2. Technical capability
A site built by a capable team is more secure and more stable, and that shows up later as time and money saved in operation. A site that goes down or gets compromised costs far more than the difference in the quote.
Ask what the build includes on the technical side: how the code is structured, how updates are handled, what happens if the site is attacked.
3. Does the design look right, and do the functions make sense
Look at the supplier’s previous work on its own site. Is the design good? Do the functions match what you need, and are they arranged sensibly? Does the technical level hold up?
A portfolio answers all four questions at once, which is why it is worth more than any claim in a proposal.
4. After-sales support
A site will develop problems after it goes live. What matters then is whether someone provides technical help, and how quickly.
Ask for specifics: the support hours, the response time, whether fixes are included. A supplier who cannot state them has not planned for the moment you will need them.
The price question
Do not choose on price alone, and be wary of the cheapest option. A site built for very little usually has something missing, and the gap tends to appear after launch, when it is expensive to close.
