Five Points to Watch in Enterprise App Development

1. Watch users’ habits

User operating habits are simple to observe: when most users hold their phone, do they operate one-handed or two-handed? One-handed, right hand or left? Which thumb taps the buttons? Designing with this in mind lets the app avoid touch blind spots; designing in close attention to users’ habits is very important.

2. Do not overload the main action bar

WeChat’s subscription account design is a good reference here. The main action bar exists to show users the most important content; too much content easily distracts them.

3. Minimise access levels

Enterprise clients especially need to note this. Enterprise products are usually more “high-end” than consumer products; in other words, ordinary people rarely touch them, so enterprise app development tends to add access levels. But on mobile terminals, too many access levels make users lose patience and even abandon the product.

4. The last mile is the longest; no design is universal

Once you release a mobile app, be prepared to keep revising and optimising it. When users hit bugs twice within a short time in a mobile app, 86 percent choose to delete it. In today’s fiercely competitive mobile market, reserve roughly three to eight weeks to solve the problems that appear after release. Developers should keep watching product reviews and analyse them, continuously raising user satisfaction.

5. Testing

Testers must do thorough testing work, see how the app performs in the production environment, and check whether the user experience meets expectations; if it falls short, developers must adjust the product quickly. Unless you can be sure your app meets user requirements, keep optimising the code. In short, thorough testing before releasing a mobile app is essential.
