On a SaaS template, a mini program generally goes from build to launch in about a week. On a custom build there is no single answer, because the timeline is the requirement. What decides it in both cases is how much the business has prepared in advance: company and product materials for the account application, and a written requirement document listing the functions you want, so the developer can assess scope, schedule and price against something concrete.
The four stages
Every build, template or custom, moves through the same four stages.
- Requirements: gathering, assessment, and a look at the admin back end so you know what you are getting.
- Confirmation: the requirement is signed off, the contract is signed, payment is made.
- Build: functions are developed, interfaces connected, product content loaded in.
- Launch: the mini program account is verified, the product is delivered, and you move into after-sales support.
Once that sequence is laid out, the timeline stops being mysterious. It is largely controllable, and the two things that most often push it out are on the client side: materials that arrive late, and requirements that are still moving while the build is underway. A business that has its documents ready and its requirements settled can compress the schedule considerably.
Where the time actually goes
In practice, the build is rarely the bottleneck on a small project. Platform account verification takes whatever it takes, and content loading takes as long as it takes you to supply the copy and the images. On a custom build, requirement changes after development has started are the single largest cause of slippage, because each one means rework rather than addition.
So the honest range is about a week for a template and roughly one to three months for a custom build, with the caveat that the second number is a property of the requirement, not of the developer.
