The application runs through the WeChat public platform, and the sequence is short enough to list. Most of the friction is in the entity information and the verification, not in the clicks.
The steps
1. Open the WeChat public platform home page and click the register button at the top right.
2. On the account-type page, click mini program at the bottom left.
3. Enter the email address, a password and the verification code, then click register. Note that the address must not already be registered to an official account, and each email address can only be used for one mini program. A confirmation email is sent once the form is submitted.
4. Open that inbox and activate the account.
5. Enter the company information.
6. Enter the entity information and the administrator information, following the prompts on screen.
7. Scan the QR code with the administrator’s WeChat. The WeChat account used for the scan becomes the account administrator.
8. Confirm the prompt that appears on the phone.
9. Return to the original page.
10. Click continue, then confirm.
11. Complete verification inside the mini program.
The entity types
The entity information and administrator information are filled in according to the entity type. Worth knowing before starting: this route is open to companies, not to individuals.
A company account can be verified in one of three ways.
Method one: corporate payment
Pay Tencent from the company’s corporate account to verify the entity. The payment details appear once the entity information has been submitted.
Method two: pay the fee
Verify the entity through WeChat verification at a cost of 300 yuan. Until verification passes, some functions of the mini program are unavailable.
Method three: reuse an existing verification
If the mini program has been created but not yet verified, and the business already has a verified official account, the qualification can be reused. The verification takes effect without resubmitting the documents and without the 300 yuan.
One thing to watch: the mini program’s verification expires on the same date as the official account’s. When that date passes, either re-verify or reuse the qualification again.
