A well-designed website attracts more users, and a site’s opening speed directly affects its traffic, so pay attention to this during the build. If your site takes a long time to open, try optimising its images.
Image optimisation mainly means reducing the number of images, lowering image quality and improving image formats, so the site opens faster. Here are some tips.
First, the simplest technique is removing unnecessary images from the pages; cutting the image count is the most direct route of all.
Second, lower the quality of images. For images that are not critical, try reducing their quality, for example saving the JPG at five percent lower quality. On the surface no difference is visible, but the file size changes considerably, which achieves the optimisation.
Finally, edit images before uploading them, using Photoshop or another editing tool, or implement image effects directly in JavaScript; both routes optimise images well.
In short, image optimisation matters in website building. Many of the large sites we visit daily carry few flashy images yet are highly practical, users find the experience much better, and the site is a pleasure to use.
