IDC’s new market analysis report examines the background, definition, typical application scenes, market size and competitive landscape of China’s industrial data intelligence market: RMB 3.58 billion in 2020, forecast to grow at a 31.6% compound annual rate through 2025 – still an early, fast-developing stage.
Industrial data analysis grew out of industrial big data, accelerating again as industrial IoT spreads and AI handles massive data processing; big data and AI are fusing toward data intelligence – using both to process and analyse industrial data, mine its value, accumulate industrial knowledge, and optimise and innovate the business.
Cloud providers, big data and AI vendors, industrial vertical specialists and industrial control firms have all entered, alongside industrial software and industrial internet platform makers. The market being early, most firms cover several stages of the value chain and deliver mostly end-to-end solutions, though many lean toward either platform or application.
Where the value sits
Energy and power take the largest industry share at 36.6%; intelligent equipment operations and maintenance is the largest scene at 43.9%. Notably, 35% of the market is internal – served by customers’ own IT subsidiaries or legacy software upgrades – leaving external suppliers limited openings.
Vendor concentration sits in energy and power, oil and petrochemicals, equipment manufacturing, steel and semiconductors – sectors with similar business flows, strong payment ability, good data foundations and complex processes – and most vendors focus on two or three industries or scenes. Projects are hard and long; most vendors earn under RMB 50 million a year, and the market structure holds large variables ahead. The key platform solutions sub-market reached RMB 1.598 billion in 2020, up 42.9% year on year.
