The first thing to understand about the cost of a mini program mall is that registering the account is only the beginning. Unlike an official account, a mini program does nothing useful the moment it is registered — after that it has to be built.
There are two service models on the market: a template service, and custom development against your own requirements. The price difference between them is large, and it comes from scope rather than from anyone being generous.
The three cost lines
- Verification: 300 RMB a year, paid to WeChat.
- Servers: on the mainstream SaaS platforms this is included in the plan price. On anything else, or on a custom build, it is billed separately, and the figure runs from a few hundred to a few thousand RMB depending on specification.
- Development: the variable one. It depends on the feature list, and on whether you are buying a template or commissioning a build.
What the tiers cost
A basic template tier runs a few thousand RMB. The tier above it — more modules, more marketing tools — sits at twenty to thirty thousand. Which one you need depends on the model rather than on ambition. A company selling its own goods is well served by the higher template tier; a platform that lets other merchants open stores on it needs the merchant-onboarding build, which is a different product.
Marketing modules
Very few mini program malls survive on transactions alone now. The traffic has to be generated, which means campaign tools: stored membership value, flash sales, bargaining, limited-time purchase, membership cards. The difference in price between having these and not is small, and without them the mall has no way to bring anyone in.
Distribution
WeChat’s ecosystem is built for sharing, and sharing is how new users arrive. That makes a distribution module close to mandatory — commission on referred sales, and, where the model calls for it, a community group-buying structure in which group leaders confirm the redemption and the platform settles with them on the transaction data.
Merchant onboarding
Turning the onboarding module on is what makes the product a platform rather than a shop: merchants apply, users follow, and the platform takes a commission from the middle. It suits vertical categories — food and beverage, automotive servicing — where many small operators serve one market and none of them can reach it alone.
Where custom development starts
Everything above is template pricing. A custom build generally starts at ten thousand RMB and rises from there. The scope is written entirely to the client’s requirements, and the cost sits in the three places that take time: integrating with third-party systems, front-end design, and back-end development. The harder the features and the longer the build, the higher the figure. For a small or mid-sized company without budget to spare or time to wait, custom development is usually the wrong first move — take a template tier, prove the model, and commission a build once the requirements are real and specific.
