Choosing Among Mini Program Suppliers

Mini programs can be picked up and shared inside WeChat, and they behave well, which is why so many businesses want one. Two questions come up immediately: what has to be handled during the build, and which supplier to use.

What the review process requires

A supplier typically gives the business a trial period first, so the requirement can be exercised and confirmed before anything is submitted. After that the package goes to WeChat for review, and once it passes, it can be published.

The thing that most often causes a rejection is a mismatch between the content and the category qualification submitted. If the business is selling something that its registered category does not cover, the review will not pass, and no amount of resubmission fixes it. Check the category against the content before submitting, not after.

The two kinds of supplier

Templates. The supplier configures a product that already exists. It is cheaper and faster for both sides, and it covers a surprising amount: shopfronts, information display, categorised content, discussion, internal management, flash sales, group buying.

For a business with limited funds whose needs sit inside that list, a template is a reasonable answer. There is no reason to commission a custom build for functions that already work.

Custom development. A product built for one client, which costs more and takes longer, and is the right answer when the requirement genuinely falls outside what a template does.

How to decide

Start from the requirement, not from the price. A retail business whose needs are a catalogue, an order flow and some promotions can rent a template and be selling this month. A business whose operation is the differentiator cannot, because the template will force the operation to fit the software.

The practical filter is simple: if you can describe what you need in terms of functions a template already lists, take the template. If the description keeps needing a sentence that starts with ‘but ours works differently’, you need the custom build.
