How Do You Submit Your Corporate Site’s URL to Baidu?

If a corporate website runs no SEM (search engine marketing), raising its ranking on Baidu calls for SEO, and SEO’s first step is getting Baidu’s search engine to index the company’s pages. So how do you get Baidu to index your site’s pages quickly?

Baidu provides four submission routes: API push, sitemap, manual submission and automatic push. Automatic push is currently offline, so only the first three are actually effective.

The steps are as follows.

1. Register an account on Baidu’s resource platform at ziyuan.baidu.com.

2. In the platform’s User Centre, open Site Management and add the corporate website to the sites under management.

3. Click Search Service, then Normal Indexing, to enter the normal indexing page. There you will see the three resource submission routes: API submission, sitemap and manual submission. The default view is API submission, showing the site’s API push interface address.

4.1 API push

Record the site’s API push interface; in the address, site is the corporate site and token is the access key from Baidu’s resource platform. Baidu’s API push supports four flavours: curl, post, PHP and Ruby.

For curl push: write the links to submit into a text file named urls.txt, one per line, enter that file’s directory and run the given command.

On success the API returns a JSON with the remaining quota, the number accepted, and empty lists of rejected same-site and invalid URLs. On failure it returns error 401 with the message that the token is not valid. The post, PHP and Ruby push flavours work identically and return the same responses.

4.2 Sitemap

First generate the site’s sitemap file, then submit it on Baidu’s resource platform. The sitemap file’s address format is txt or xml; each address file may hold at most 50,000 URLs and must be under 10 MB. Index-type files are not processed, and their child files still consume quota.

4.3 Manual submission

Manual submission suits single pages: paste the link into the platform’s submission box.

4.4 Automatic push (currently offline)

Automatic push was a lightweight link submission component: a snippet of JavaScript from Baidu’s push.js placed in every page’s HTML, which pushed the page’s link to Baidu automatically whenever the page was visited, helping new pages get discovered faster.

All four routes push the site’s pages to Baidu’s resource platform for indexing, but they differ. API push is the fastest: push each day’s newly produced links immediately so new links are indexed in time. Sitemap: you can place links into the sitemap periodically and submit it; Baidu crawls and checks the submitted sitemap cyclically and processes the links, but indexing is slower than API push. Manual submission suits those who prefer not to submit by program. Automatic push, now offline, was the in-page JavaScript route that helped new pages get found faster.
