1. Use consistent marks, standard abbreviations and colours; the meaning of displayed information should be entirely clear, so users need not consult other sources.
2. Display meaningful error messages, not bare program error codes.
3. Avoid using text input boxes to hold non-editable text; do not treat input boxes as labels.
4. Use indentation and text to aid comprehension.
5. Use the user’s own vocabulary, not purely professional computer jargon.
6. Use the display space efficiently, but avoid overcrowding it.
7. Keep language consistent, such as pairing “OK” with “Cancel” and “Yes” with “No”.
