What Does a Mini Program Mall Cost?

WeChat mini program malls are becoming the default storefront for small retailers. They cost far less than building a native app while keeping most of the same advantages, so plenty of physical stores want one. The problem is knowing where to start: search online and you drown in ads and wildly different quotations. This article walks through what a mall mini program actually costs.

The basic setup costs

1. Registering the mini program account

Register on the WeChat Official Accounts platform. The account can be held by an individual or a company. If you already run a verified official account you can bind the mini program to it and skip the ¥300 verification fee. Otherwise the fee applies.

2. Domain registration and filing

Register the domain with a large cloud provider such as Tencent Cloud or Alibaba Cloud — usually around ¥60. Filing with the authorities comes next. Most providers let you file online, but they expect you to buy a server or hosting space from them first, and the process takes about 20 working days.

3. Server and SSL certificate

For a small project a low-spec server is enough, or you can rent space on someone else’s. Choose according to the project; budget around ¥1,000. The SSL certificate is what turns http into https, and both mini programs and mobile apps require it. You can pick up a free certificate from Alibaba Cloud, or pay for a commercial one at a couple of thousand yuan.

So what does a mall mini program actually cost? The supplier sets the price, and it varies with the industry and the features required. In practice there are two routes:

Option one: a ready-made mall template

Templates are the fastest and cheapest route. Pricing typically runs ¥1,000–3,500 a year. This is what most small merchants and small businesses choose: you add images and content on the template platform, submit for review, and the store is live within one to five working days. Ongoing maintenance stays with the supplier — all the merchant has to do is refresh the images and content periodically.

Option two: a custom-built mall

A custom build means writing code, and the price reflects it: usually ¥10,000 to ¥50,000. The mall is assembled around the exact features and pages the merchant needs, which goes well beyond what a template can offer — that is precisely why custom work costs more. Anything a template cannot do, a custom build can.

The trade-off is time. A custom build typically takes three to four months. Because the timeline is long and the spend is significant, choose your supplier carefully and check the background before signing anything.

So what does a mall mini program cost? It comes down to industry, features, and whether you go with a template or a custom build. If you need to be live quickly, use a template. If you need a complete, fully featured set of mall functions, commission a custom build and accept the longer schedule. Either way, the goal is a mini program that fits what you actually do.
